The HERO12 looks like every other GoPro camera you’ve ever seen: a small (2.8 inches wide, 1.3 inches deep, 2 inches tall), chunky cube with dual LCD screens, a raised camera lens, and a built-in mic. It’s compatible with over 50 mounts, mods, and accessories, plenty of tools to get the footage you want the way you want to.
What our editors like most about this camera is that syncing to the GoPro mobile app is seamless, and with a subscription, you can store everything in the cloud. Other than that, the footage always comes out super crisp, and the stabilization is impressive, even by today’s standards.
If there’s one thing to know about this camera, it’s that it can get hot and shut off. To circumvent this, our editors found that putting it in a white rubber case that reflects light helps if you can’t keep it out of direct sunlight.

Aside from our editors, Walmart shoppers say it’s “easy to set up and start using,” per one, who also liked that it “comes with the basic accessories to get you started.” While a memory card would have been nice, microSD cards have gotten inexpensive enough that you won’t eat up all the money you’re saving by getting a few for your next excursion.
One explorer wrote that the “underwater clarity” of this camera is impressive. “It just came back from 120 feet with no problems” in the waterproof housing, one of many available accessories. Without the housing, it can still handle up to 33 feet of water, more than enough for many aquatic pursuits. Others called this camera an “amazing product” and a “great traveling camera.”
