From killers to sadists, why is Emmerdale’s doctor surgery such a haven of doom? – Bundlezy

From killers to sadists, why is Emmerdale’s doctor surgery such a haven of doom?

We need to talk about the staff at the surgery in Emmerdale.

You’d think that the people responsible for the health and wellbeing of other residents would ensure they do things by the book at all times – but this couldn’t be further from the truth.

With John Sugden’s (Oliver Farnworth) time running out, it got us thinking about past members of the local GP practice and how nearly all of them have committed wrongdoing in one way or another!

Honestly? It seems current receptionist Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson) is the only person who hasn’t risked her future.

Let’s take a look back at some of the staff members of the surgery, because someone needs to have a strong word with whoever hires these people!

Jermaine Bailey

One wrong move changed everything for him (Picture: ITV)

Micha Balfour’s Emmerdale character Doctor Jermaine Bailey lost his job due to having an affair with Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper), who was 17 at the time.

Emma Barton

Introduced as a nurse, Emma Barton (Gillian Kearney) ended up being anything but a kind-hearted member of the NHS.

She was responsible for the Hotten Bypass crash, death of her son Finn, murder of James Barton, and that’s honestly not even the half of it.

Wendy Posner

Surprisingly, Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) spent quite a few years at the surgery before her dark secret was revealed. In 2021, it was confirmed that Wendy isn’t even a qualified nurse!

Meena Jutla

OMG where do we even start. Once again, Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) started her journey in the village as a local nurse, but it was then confirmed she was the soap’s latest villain. Her crimes include murder, kidnapping, torture and false imprisonment.

Ella Forster

Ella Forster (Paula Lane) was carrying a pretty major secret when she arrived in Emmerdale. After starting a relationship with Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), we learnt that she was responsible for killing her best friend when she was a child.

Manpreet Sharma

Earlier this year, Manpreet started getting blackmailed over some intimate images she was sharing on an online platform. The blackmailer was then revealed as Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). With some clever comments, Joe manipulated Manpreet into helping him with his organ donation.

Manpreet unethically sourced some blood from Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and gave it to Joe, who then got it tested to see if it was a match.

Manpreet knew she was taking quite the risk but with Joe aware of those private photos, it felt as though she didn’t really have a choice.

Liam Cavanagh

Pains us to say it, but Liam isn’t holier than thou either (Picture: ITV)

While Liam hasn’t exactly dabbled in the world of crime, he did spend time keeping Wendy’s secret hidden, and still hasn’t told anyone that Manpreet helped Joe with his illegal kidney transplant plan. If those pieces of information were ever revealed, Liam would more than likely lose his job.

Bent coppers? Bent doctors and nurses more like.

It was also borderline criminal to watch him have a steamy affair with Wendy in the surgery…just saying.

John Sugden

Most of the resident believe John is a local hero – but that isn’t going to last much longer (Picture: ITV)

As Brooke Cottage Surgery’s most recent criminal, the events orchestrated by John have put many characters in danger.

His list includes being responsible for the death of Nate Robinson, causing Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) to have an allergic reaction, drugging Chas and Aaron Dingle (Lucy Pargeter and Danny Miller), attacking residents including Liam and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), holding Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) hostage, putting his little nephew in hospital after tampering with the slurry tank on Butlers Farm…John has certainly kept himself busy, and the above list isn’t even everything he’s been responsible for.

The character lives with a hero complex, which means he’s orchestrated a number of events with the knowledge he can save the victim and get praise after.

He adopted this mindset years ago, when he began to get compared to his brother Robert, who he had never met.

John believed that being called a hero would stop people likening him to his sibling, who was sentenced to prison in 2019 after killing Lee Posner.

John’s plan worked for a little while, but everything changed last Friday, when Aaron realised he was connected to Mackenzie’s disappearance.

On Monday, John told Aaron everything, but still believed they could get through things and be together. The instalment ended with John throwing himself and Aaron off a gorge, terrified his husband would reunite with Robert if he went to prison.

Aaron is now in a coma, and John knows that if he wakes up, he will tell everyone about what he’s done.
