Why We Love This Deal
This July, Altra released the Paradigm 8, a fresh update to the sleek, bestselling road running shoe that features the brand’s classic zero heel-to-toe drop design. The new model also means its predecessor is on sale.
Right now, you can grab a pair of Altra Paradigm 7 running shoes on sale for $127 at REI. Today’s standards say that 25% off isn’t a huge discount, but when you consider the fact that REI has them for an even better rate than the current price ($136) on the Altra site, it becomes a more worthwhile pickup.

What Shoppers Should Know
- Sizes Available: 8 through 12.5, with some wide sizes available
- Color Options: REI has three colors available, with the Blue having the best size availability.
- Weight: 1 lb. 4.4 oz.
- Notable Features: The Altra Paradigm 7 features both a zero-drop heel and stabilization for over-pronators, a rare combination.
- Best Use Case: Stability runner for those wanting to train the calves or take pressure off the knees.
Don’t get immediately trapped up in the desire to visually compare the Paradigm 7 to the 8. While the 7’s midsole has a bulky appearance, especially near the heel bed, a pair weighs just 1 pound and 4.4 ounces, which is actually lighter than the newer Paradigm 8 by more than an ounce.
Similarly, don’t discount the tech of the Paradigm 7, which was designed with a fairly unique pair of features: Altra’s zero heel-to-toe drop and GuideRail stabilization that help over-pronators keep their feet in line during jogs. If your desire is to train your calves and take the pressure off your knees (a result of zero drop shoes) while tackling over-pronation, these are the ideal shoes for you, though anybody can wear and benefit from them.
The Altra Paradigm 7 is available from REI in three colorways (Blue, Gray/Orange, and Black) and sizes 8 through 12.5, with some wide sizings available.

What Shoppers Are Saying
One runner discussed the advantages of Altra’s zero-drop design, noting that “these shoes are absolutely fantastic for building up nice calves and quads because they allow your body to run more naturally.” The same runner also said their Paradigm 7s show “almost no wear” after about 400 miles of running in them.
Another highlighted how much they appreciated the combination of great arch support and wiggle room for the toes, adding, “I have had Hokas, and these are much more comfortable, in my opinion.”
The Altra Paradigm 7 is on the way out as the next generation of the Paradigm line is here. That makes this an excellent time to get the shoe while it is only $127.
