Ego Nwodim Departs ‘SNL’ Following Seven-Season Run

The slew of cast members leaving SNL isn’t over just yet. Ego Nwodim is the latest to leave the late-night show, letting fans know through an Instagram story she posted on Friday morning. After seven years, Nwodim’s decision comes after NBC announced the new cast members coming in for the next season.

“The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight,” Nwodim writes in the Instagram post. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL,” she said in her post.

“I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always. Now invite me to your weddings please!!!”

SNL is going through a major shakeup, with fans baffled by multiple cast members announcing their departure at once. Nwodim joins fellow comedians Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow, and Emil Wakim in their departure ahead of the 51st season. The new season is set to premiere on October 4.

Nwodim originally joined SNL during Season 44 as a featured comedian before gaining popularity and becoming a main cast member. Following her leave, she has the door open as she has appeared in Peacock’s Poker Face and Mr. Throwback and Netflix film Little Brother.

Season 51 of SNL will bring in new faces, including Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska, as well as Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall. Also joining are Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang as well as featured players Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline.
