Lodge is one of those cookware brands that stands at the top for their quality and consistency, across the board with all of their products. Their legacy stands the test of time and we love them for that. While the price tag on their cast-iron is worth it, we love a good dupe that’s super affordable, and Aldi is delivering this fall.
Their Crofton Mini Cast Iron Skillet is the perfect size for making a scrumptious breakfast for one person. You can crack an egg or two in here to make the perfect over-easy or sunny-side-up. Or, make a single pancake or Dutch baby, crispy breakfast potatoes, hash browns or O’brien potatoes, a single piece of meat like a chicken breast, pork chop or small sirloin, a personal pan pizza or a single chewy chocolate chip cookie.
Mini cast iron skillets usually measure in around 3- or 4-inches in diameter, but Aldi hasn’t released the actual dimensions on this one. It retails for just $6.99, while the Lodge version runs around $13.99. But just like Lodge, the Aldi cast iron skillets need to be properly seasoned and cared for.
You’ll want to clean it with a soft brush and water – avoiding soap – to remove stuck-on food, then towel dry. Heat it on the stove until smoking, then let it cool. Drizzle and spread a small amount of neutral oil on it to season it. As long as you complete this simple step each time, cast-iron cookware remains nonstick and will cook eggs perfectly.

When Aldi has dropped these mini cast iron skillets in the past, fans took to Reddit to share what they cooked. “Press cookie dough into the ‘frying pan’ (I buy the little tubs), pop into the oven for 10 – 15 minutes, and then add ice cream on top when they’re done baking”, said another person.
“I have a small round cast iron and use it for eggs for breakfast sandwiches. The one I have is probably 5 inches (maybe 4) in diameter and it’s perfect for bagels or toast”, stated another fan. “[I make] mini versions of things like cast-iron cookies, pizza, dips, cake, etc”, exclaimed one more.
Aldi is dropping this mini skillet on September 17, along with a mini square cast-iron griddle and a mini cast iron casserole dish with a lid. So if you’re in the market for mini versions of your favorite cast-iron cookware, Aldi has you covered.
