A man has been arrested after a Sikh woman was raped in a ‘racially motivated’ attack last week, police have said.

The suspect, in his 30s, was detained tonight and remains in custody on suspicion of rape following enquiries into the incident in Oldbury, West Midlands.

Police are continuing to support the woman who is entitled to anonymity as an alleged victim of a sexual assault.

Chief Superintendent Kim Madill said: ‘This is a significant development in the investigation and we want to thank the community for their continuing support.

‘The investigation remains on-going and we would urge people not to speculate as we work to identify and trace all those who may have been involved.’
