If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, you’ll know full well the pain of filming delays.

Whether it was because the production team couldn’t get planning permission for a castle or there was a ‘lack of winter’, it felt like part of the viewing experience that fans were forced to wait years on end for their favourite series to return.

But with 2026 just around the corner, it appears HBO could be heading in a new direction.

To the delight of fans, the latest Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently in post-production and has been given a release date of January 2026 by HBO CEO Casey Bloy at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon season three has also been set to premiere just a few months later in June.

This would mean for the first time ever, two series set in the fictional city of Westeros will air in the same year.

As Rhaenyra looks to gain an advantage by unusual means, Daemon pressures Oscar Tully to raise up his bannermen.

Commenting on X, @JustinColeF said: ‘We have never been more back.

@erayy555 added: ‘Finally! Let’s go,’ as @grouchoskie wrote: ‘Looking forward to these series.’

@MichealOfo94494 commented: ‘We feast next year,’ while @NelsonTooMighty said: ‘2026 is looking great for entertainment.’

Echoing the excitement, @playonshaga revealed: ‘Happy we are getting both of these in the same year.’

Lastly, @gamecentric_io called it: ‘A proper Westeros binge year.’

With HBO’s prior history of delaying filming, some fans were more skeptical, however.

Some viewers have also expressed concerns about ‘binge fatigue’, however (Picture: HBO)

@FlageyGod argued: ‘The long delays between TV’s kinda make you lose interest ngl I don’t even remember season 2 anymore.’ (sic)

@Dan_Selcke also said: ‘I would’ve preferred one show each year so they’re staggered a bit, but this is fun too.’

@overactina also argued: ‘Two spin offs in one year is crazy, binge fatigue incoming.’

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg stories, was originally supposed to air in 2025, but fans are hoping this latest 2026 announcement will remain.

Speaking at the 2025 Emmy Awards, HBO CEO Casey Bloy confirmed that the show will debut at the start of 2026, meanwhile House of the Dragon season 3 will premiere around June 2026.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon season three is expected to come to HBO in early 2026.
