Robert Redford, who has died at the age of 89 at his home in Utah, had four kids with his first wife Lola Van Wagenen.
The couple had two sons and two daughters together. However, Redford’s two sons died young and tragically. Redford was married since 2009 to his second wife, the German-born artist Sibylle Szaggars, at the time of his death. The cause of death was not released.
Redford’s publicist Cindi Berger told NBC News that the actor died at his home “in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved. He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy.”

Redford’s two daughters, Shauna and Amy Redford, have survived him, as has his current wife, according to NBC News.
However, his two sons died young and tragically. Scott Anthony Redford was born to Redford and his first wife in 1959 but “died of sudden infant death syndrome; David James Redford died of cancer in 2020,” NBC News reported. He was known as James.

Of his son Scott’s death, Redford told Esquire: “I was only 21; my wife was 20. We were just starting our lives; I was just starting my career in New York. Of course it was traumatic, and how that plays out over time, I don’t know. We had to deal with it. You have to move on. And we had other children who came. But something like that doesn’t get completely dismissed. It probably shows up in various small ways you’re not even aware of.”
David Redford’s obituary says his cause of death was bile duct cancer. “James Redford, whose prodigious commitment to social and environmental justice and encouraging change through documentary filmmaking, died on October 16. He was home with his family in Fairfax, California. James’ wife, Kyle Redford, confirmed that her husband died of bile duct cancer. He was 58 years old,” it reads.
“Born in New York City, James was the third child of Lola Van Wagenen, a historian and co-founder of Consumer Action Now, and Robert Redford, the award-winning actor, director, producer, and environmentalist,” the obit continues. “James attended New York’s Dalton School, and then college at the University of Colorado, where he earned degrees in creative writing and film, and at Northwestern, where he earned a master’s degree in literature.”

Amy Redford is a podcaster, director, and actor, according to her website.
“Amy Redford’s career in the creative arts spans over three decades as a director, producer, and actor in film, television, music videos and theatre,” her website bio reads.
”Her directorial debut was with The Guitar, starring Saffron Burrows—and produced the feature film ‘Professor Marston and the Wonder Women,'” it says. “While currently co-writing, directing and producing ‘Claude and the Birthday Cake’ with Jude Falaise exec produced by Euzhan Palcy, she is also directing and producing projects including Roost and The Town that Jack Built, No Nuts, and Phoenix.”
Amy is a producer on the documentary series The Lincoln Project for Showtime, and is in pre- production on two docuseries; one about the Encircle House and LGBTQ+ youth in Utah called No Sides and one about The unsheltered in Utah and the Other Side Academy’s tiny village project to address it called Shelter.
Shauna Redford is married to the author of Fast Food Nation, according to People, which added that Redford expressed an interest in leaving the Sundance Film Festival in his children’s hands.
