For George Campbell, Laphroaig’s Distillery Manager, it was a rare chance to document the accident. “The period of unexpectedly hot kiln smoking presented a unique opportunity to explore how such an event could influence the flavor of Islay’s iconic dram,” he said. The whisky that followed, dense with notes of char and sweetness, is both an homage to tradition and a reminder that whisky is, at its heart, a living experiment.
Sarah Dowling, Laphroaig’s Lead Whisky Maker, framed the release in more scientific terms. “Through the Elements Series we have been able to experiment and gain a deeper insight into the many variables that contribute to Laphroaig’s rich and characterful profile.
