We’d love to see you at our open meeting on September 25th, in Spring Lane Building, room SLB/004, at 6pm! Students from both the University of York, and York St John are all welcome!
What is The Tab?
Every uni city has a Tab, from York to Cambridge, writing news stories, fun opinion pieces, and creating quizzes for students and non-students alike.
The Tab has something for everyone; whether they want to write close to the ground news stories, dictating which college reminds them of which Pixar character, or the best spots to get a sweet treat in exam season.
You could be writing news stories like:
- ‘I was told I was too drunk’: York students expose spiking incidents at SU club nights

Why write for the Tab?
As a writer for The York Tab, your articles and stories will be seen by thousands of readers across the country, which is an amazing feat within itself, but it also helps to develop your own skills as a journalist and dip your toes into the world of journalism and media.
You can write as much or little as you like! There’s no pressure on individual writers to write on a constant basis, especially with how hectic exam seasons are! We know you might need a break then (and so do we!).
Our editors can help you to improve your writing and boost your confidence in your writing! This comes with the added bonus of an Assistant Editor, based at the London HQ, who will provide you with amazing training that will get you ready to be the incredible writers you are.
It’s also a great environment to meet people and make friends! There’s our weekly meeting where we pitch ideas for news, features or quizzes. We also socials that allow us to step back from all the uni work, and have a good time, with some lovely people and a much needed beverage.
