This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) underwent surgery on his spine in tonight’s Coronation Street after being struck down in a hit and run last week.

The mechanic was walking through the precinct when a stolen car rammed straight into him, leaving him in desperate need of medical attention.

After he was rushed to hospital, doctors confirmed that he had suffered two fractured vertebrae and had a blood clot pressing against his spine.

This came after Tyrone woke up and found that he couldn’t feel his legs.

Warning that there were risks involved, the doctor told Tyrone that he would need to undergo surgery, and tonight he went under the knife and found out the results of that procedure.

The doctor was pleased to report that everything had gone well with the operation.

However, it seems that Tyrone has a long recovery ahead of him, with the doctor admitting that it could be years before he regains full feeling in his legs.

Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) encouraged him to think positively, insisting that the doctors always had to give the worst case scenario, though Tyrone took this a little too literally.

When Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) brought the kids to see him, Ruby Dobbs (Billie Naylor) asked if he would be able to play in a dad and daughter football match with her in a couple of months.

Though Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) tried to warn her that he may not be ready by then, Tyrone insisted that he would be able to play, leaving his wife concerned.

Once his visitors had left, Fiz pointed out that he shouldn’t be giving the kids false hope by making promises that he may not be able to keep.

Unfortunately, Tyrone had a very black and white view of the situation, and assumed that Fiz believed he would never walk again and that the girls shouldn’t have any hope what so ever.

Of course, Fiz set him straight, reminding him of the two-year timeframe the doctor had warned of.

However, Tyrone insisted that they should all do as Cassie had said and think positively, believing that this would help his recovery.

Is Fiz right to be more realistic, or will Tyrone make a miraculous recovery in a few short weeks?
