Sylvester Stallone feared Hollywood legend would ‘steal scenes’ in his TV crime drama

Sylvester Stallone has opened up about sharing the screen with Samuel L Jackson, branding the Hollywood legend ‘really special’.

TV fans were sent into meltdown when it was announced that the Pulp Fiction icon would be popping up in the third season of Tulsa King, which premieres on September 21 on Paramount+.

He is set to join the cast as Russell Lee Washington Jr, before swapping Oklahoma for life in New Orleans in his own upcoming spin-off, NOLA King.

Speaking to Metro at the Tulsa King premiere held in New York – shortly before the fourth season was announced – Sly compared their time on set to being in the ring.

’There’s a real difference in certain elements with certain actors,’ he told us. ‘We have a lot of great ones, but he’s really special.

‘Waiting for him to step on set, it almost feels like a boxer waiting for a really tough opponent – who’s going to throw the first punch? Is he going to try to steal the scene?

‘And then after the first line, you’re in love with each other because you’re just firing. That’s who he is.’

Sylvester has made a name for himself as an action hero thanks to stints in the Rocky franchise, his work in Rambo, The Expendables, and so many more.

He is also no stranger to starring opposite other huge names, appearing alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Robert De Niro, Jason Statham, and Kurt Russell at that time.

But he only had one name in mind when asked who, out of all the icons he’s been on set with, he would love to host in his Tulsa playground next.

Without skipping a beat, he proudly replied: ‘My daughter!’

Sly has starred as Dwight Manfredi in Tulsa King for three years, with the first episodes premiering on Paramount+ in 2022.

The last season ended on a cliffhanger as the mob favorite was abducted, leaving fans – and his loyal family – fearing for his future.

When asked how excited he was to get stuck into the plot, which sees his character in his toughest spot yet, his delight was palpable.

‘I’ll tell you why that’s so exciting – because that’s a real cliffhanger,’ he added. ‘You go, “Where did that come from?”

‘We finally got everyone… I’m legit, everyone’s got money, we’re all going to be living happily ever after. [And then] Bang!”

‘But that’s what life does to you, it gives you a slap just when you think it’s perfect.’

It’s not looking too good for Dwight and the Manfredi family, but thankfully, we don’t have to wait long for the new episodes as season three kicks off on Sunday.

The official synopsis reads: ‘As Dwight’s empire expands, so do his enemies – and the risks to his crew.

‘Now, he faces his most dangerous adversaries in Tulsa yet: the Dunmires, a powerful old-money family that doesn’t play by old-world rules, forcing Dwight to fight for everything he’s built and protect his family.’
