An attorney named Mark Zuckerberg is suing Facebook’s parent company, Meta, over a case of mistaken identity.
The Indianapolis bankruptcy lawyer — who shares the same name as the tech billionaire — claims he has had issues with the platform for more than a decade.
“Normally you would say, well, it’s just Facebook and it’s not a big deal, but this time it’s affecting my bottom line because I was paying for advertising for my business to try and get clients,” Zuckerberg told The New York Post.
The plaintiff explained that before his account was disabled for the fourth time, he had spent $11,000 in ad funds, which Meta refused to refund after taking down his law firm’s profile.
“So they took my money, but then after they took my money, they shut me down for what they say is impersonating a celebrity, not using a true name and violating their community standards,” Zuckerberg added. “And it’s the same message I get every time they shut me down.”
He adamantly denies breaking Facebook’s policies, calling the accusations “offensive.”
“[It] is supposed to be so tech savvy in the world can’t figure out how to flag my accounts and keep this from happening,” her continued. “It’s like they’re almost doing it on purpose, but I’m sure they’re not but it feels like it.”
For their part, Facebook says they “reinstated” the lawyer’s account, calling the situation an “error.”
“We know there’s more than one Mark Zuckerberg in the world,” the tech giant continued. “We appreciate Mr. Zuckerberg’s continued patience on this issue and are working to try and prevent this from happening in the future.”
Now, Zuckerberg is hoping his money back and a formal, in-person apology from his name twin.
