Harry Kane’s brace for Bayern Munich against Chelsea has earned him a piece of Champions League history, breaking a record previously held by David Beckham.
The England captain scored Bayern’s second two goals in a 3-1 win over the Blues at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
It was a competitive game, but the German giants deserved their win, despite being helped out by some calamitous Chelsea errors.
The 32-year-old continued his superb start to the season, having scored five goals in his first five Bundesliga outings.
He has also taken his tally of goal contributions in the Champions League to 53 – 42 goals and 11 assists – which is a record for an English player in the competition.

Beckham had held the record with his 52 goal contributions over his epic career with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, but Kane has now surpassed him.
Kane has also joined a very small group of players who have scored 20+ goals for two different clubs in the Champions League, having done so for Tottenham and now Bayern.
Cristiano Ronaldo achieved the feat for Real Madrid and Manchester United, while Neymer managed it for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Kane, who has now scored 95 goals in 102 games for Bayern in all competitions, says he is feeling as good as ever, two months after his 32nd birthday.
‘It was a nice couple of goals,’ he told TNT Sports. ‘The penalty is always nice to score but the second goal was a good finish. Great pressure from the guys, I just found myself in a bit of space and was able to bend it into the far corner.

‘I feel in a good place. Physically and mentally I’m in as good a shape as I’ve ever felt. In this team I know I’m going to get chances and it was the same again tonight.’
Vincent Kompany’s side got off to an ideal start to their Champions League campaign, with a trip to take on Pafos next up for them in the competition at the end of the month.
‘Amazing result,’ said Kane. ‘It was a tough game against a really good side. We said before the game they’re club world champions. We had it to be on it from the start and we were.

‘In the second half we created the better chances and it was good to get that second goal. As the game went on it felt like they got more tired, spaces opened up and we were able to exploit that.
‘We talked a lot about when other teams try to play we’re only two or three seconds from having a chance ourselves. It fell to me in a nice place and was a good finish.
‘Hopefully more [goals this season than last season]. Always aim to improve and get better. In the Champions League we sometimes create more chances then in Bundesliga games because they’re more open.’
