iOS 26 is finally here and one of its incredible new features is Call Screening, which means you’ll never have to answer spam calls on your iPhone again. It’s a lifesaver!
There’s nothing worse than getting a call from a random number, picking up to see who it is and wasting time talking to someone telling you you’ve been in an accident.
Spam calls are not only really annoying and time consuming, they’re also pretty scary and leave you fearing you could be part of some horrible phishing scam.

iOS 26’s Call Screening means you’ll never have to answer spam calls
However, with iOS 26’s Call Screening, your iPhone will automatically screen the caller using AI, asking them a series of questions they have to answer including who they are and why they’re calling.
Your iPhone will then share these answers on your screen before the phone even rings, giving you the caller’s name and the reason for the call.
“Remove unwanted distractions from unknown numbers with Call Screening, which gathers the necessary information before your phone rings, so you can make an informed decision on whether to pick up, decline, or ask for more information,” Apple says.
Screened calls from unknown numbers can be put in a new area of your call list so they’re out of the way.

Here’s how to turn on Call Screening on your iPhone with iOS 26
To turn the feature on:
- Open Settings
- Scroll down to Phone
- Go to Screen Unknown Callers
- Turn on Ask Reason for Calling

If this option isn’t available for you, that means your iPhone probably isn’t supported. Only newer iPhones that have Apple’s new AI system called Apple Intelligence can do Call Screening.
Apple Intelligence is compatible with these devices: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max.
