Colin Farrell has revealed how he was ‘turned on’ by Margot Robbie before even meeting her.
The Irish actor, 49, is currently on the press tour for his movie A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, in which he stars alongside the Australian actress, 35.
However, during a recent interview to promote their film, Colin spoke about being drawn to her before working together.
Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday, Colin revealed how he’d been given glowing reviews about the Barbie star ahead of their shared project.
‘You hear things through the years, ’cause as you know yourself, it’s a fairly small industry,’ he told the talk show host.
‘So, I met people through the years that worked with Margot… and they all, [men and women], said how extraordinary she was.
‘Not just it’s obvious that she’s an incredible actress, but how kind and fun and “one of the team” she is. Which is always a turn-on for me…straight up!’
Reacting to the compliment, Margot jumped in and quipped: ‘You owe me 20 bucks later.’
Continuing to gush about the actress, Colin said that what he’d been told about her ‘was really apparent as soon as we met’, adding that a ‘really easy’ dynamic formed between them immediately.
Paying back the compliment, Margot added that she had ‘always heard things’ about her co-star.
‘Everyone talks about what a great guy he is — obviously I know he’s talented and all that.’
The pair then had a back-and-forth, with Margot telling him: ‘If you’re going to give me compliments, you have to take them too!’
‘But I have a lot of friends who are crew members — actually, two of my closest girlfriends have worked on a movie with Colin before as crew members. And they, too, were like, “He’s just the most divine human being on the planet”,’ she said before the chat wrapped up.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is a romantic fantasy film, directed by Kogonada and also starring Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Kevin Kline, Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith and Billy Magnussen.
It follows a pair of strangers, David (Colin) and Sarah (Margot), and the unimaginable journey that ties them together after meeting at a wedding, delving into their pasts together through a series of magical doors.
However, the film has received mixed reviews to date, with one going so far as to call it ‘pretentious’.
‘Pairing indie darling Kogonada with white-hot, potentially commercial material indeed seemed like a big, bold, beautiful idea. What a shame that what resulted is such plasticky schmaltz,’ The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
‘It’s the kind of thing you’d bet would be emotionally manipulative — if only, because that’d be welcome compared to this emotionally disconnecting, sporadically nuanced narrative,’ USA Today shared.
‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey tries to be too big and too bold, when it’s the smaller moments in which this film becomes a beautiful journey,’ Collider added.
Margot has been married to British producer Tom Ackerley since 2016, with the couple welcoming their first child last year.
Meanwhile Colin has two sons – James Padraig Farrell – with American model Kim Bordenave and Henry Tadeusz Farrell, whose mother is Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curuś.
He was last in a relationship with Kelly MacNamara, whom he split from in 2023 after five years together.
