The ex-husband of a ‘selfless’ mother-of-two is to appear in court charged with her rape and murder.
Kimberley Thompson, 43, was found dead at an address in Pinewood Road, Northampton on August 9.
Michael Thompson, 55, described by police as a black British man, has been charged with one count of rape and one count of murder.
Local youth mentor and schoolfriend Quinton Green described Kimberley as a ‘popular, selfless and caring mother of two.’
He told Metro: ‘The community of Northampton are shocked, devastated and heartbroken over the tragic loss of Kimberley.

‘She touched so many hearts with her captivating personality and passion for basketball.
‘Torn apart by tragedy, yet united in grief it is plain to see that her loved ones and all that knew her are struggling to come to terms with the senseless loss.’
He added: ‘A personal friend of mine since primary school. This tragic loss is unimaginably close to home. Kim is a cherished daughter, a beautiful sister, a loving mother and a devoted friend to so many.’
One schoolfriend posted: ‘My thoughts and heart are with all of her family and friends.
‘This is so sad and heartbreaking. I will always treasure our childhood together.
‘You were my bestest childhood friend and have so many memorable moments with you.’
Another friend posted on Facebook: ‘RIP Kimberley
‘I remember her being really lovely and having a passion for basketball.
‘Thinking of her family and friends and sending love.’
Police arrested a man on suspicion of murder three days after her body was found. He was released on bail before Thompson was charged with her rape and murder.
Thompson, of Pinewood Road, is due to appear before Northampton Magistrates’ Court today.
