Staff at Sheffield Hallam University have had their payday delayed amid a “processing issue” with its bank.
Members of staff were warned of the potential delay yesterday afternoon, and a spokesperson for the university has confirmed this afternoon that staff can now expect to be paid tomorrow – a day later than expected.
In a message to staff on Tuesday, chief financial officer Ryan Keyworth said the university was “in conversation with the bank right now to try and put in place a solution” and avoid salaries being paid one day late.
The email – first published by The Star – went on to reassure staff there was “more than enough” money in the bank to cover the payments and offered support for anyone who may face financial difficulties.
Today a spokesperson for Sheffield Hallam University told The Sheffield Tab: “We want to reiterate our apology to staff for salary payments being made a day later than planned. This is down to a processing error by our bank.
“As soon as we became aware of the issue, we put in place support for staff to allow us to provide partial salary advances for anyone where a delay may cause financial difficulties. We will also reimburse staff if they incur any charges.
“Over the coming days, we will be working with our bank to understand how this happened and ensure that it does not happen again.”
