A Florida man died after riding a roller coaster at Universal Orlando Resort’s newest park on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old man, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, was found unresponsive after his ride on the Stardust Racers roller coaster came to an end. He was reportedly rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Following an autopsy, medical examiner Joshua Stephany ruled his cause of death a result of multiple blunt impact injuries, Associated Press reported. His death was ruled an accident.
No further details were revealed of the man’s injuries.
“We are devastated by this tragic event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones,” a Universal Orlando Resorts spokesperson said in a statement. “We are fully cooperating with Orange County and the ongoing investigation. The attraction remains closed.”
Guests recalled hearing a fellow passenger screaming for help after the ride concluded.
“When I was on the ride, the travel finishes, and one girl starts to say, ‘Help! Help! Help!'” the unnamed passenger explained to Click Orlando. “The girl was screaming, and we didn’t understand what happened.”
She added, “I don’t know if he was dead in that moment, but I think yes,” explained that the man was slumped over and bleeding.”
The ride, which launched in May when the park opened, is a dual-launch racing coaster with speeds of up to 62 mph. The coaster peaks at 133 feet on a 5,000-foot track.
“Race along an inverted crisscross, known as the “Celestial Spin” in a dazzling display of blazing colors and ethereal music,” the website describes.
