AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta Locally Grown holding its weekly farmers market with tons of local food for everyone.
The Veggie Park Farmers Market is held at The Hub every Thursday from 4-7pm showcasing local farmers and producers.
Augusta Locally Grown was founded in 2008 and supports farmers and gardeners by making fresh food available to the Augusta community.
Diane Kerekanich, Interim Executive Director at Augusta Locally Grown, tells me having this available to people gives them the chance to have healthier foods on their table.
“Maybe not the local Family Dollar or Dollar Tree that they may be going to, which are great when you need it, but this gives them another option. We also take their snap benefits and then we double it so that they get a good value,” said Kerekanich.
The market is open to everyone, if you are using your SNAP card, you can swipe it at the market manager booth and get $2 in market tokens with every $1 spent.
There is a wide variety of foods from vegetables, fresh squeezed juices, homemade sauces and more.
“It is a very diverse group that comes, it’s not just for those that have benefits or need to, with our token system it kind of evens the playing field, so anybody can come down to the market and then we’re just all together so when you have somebody that is local and their excited because they get to come here,” Kerekanich said.
She says she looks forward to seeing returning and new faces every Thursday and gets excited seeing what people pick up.
“If you ask anybody, people that come here, Thursday’s are our favorite day because it is farmer’s market day and we all just enjoy each other, it’s a big social time, people just come because it is a social outlet, but it’s just a fun, really awesome sense of community just to come and see everybody,” said Kerekanich.
If you are not able to make it to the weekly farmers market, they also have an online market option.
They will also be hosting Harvest at The Hub Friday, September 26, 2025 from 6-9pm.
