A big trailer for the next Star Wars movie — The Mandalorian & Grogu — was reportedly set to drop on Friday, but has now been delayed. According to one insider, this decision is connected with turmoil at Disney, after its subsidiary, ABC, decided to suspend airing of Jimmy Kimmel Live!on Wednesday, September 17.
“The Disney trailer [today] was supposed to be The Mandalorian and Grogu,” reported Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman on Friday. “Trailer [has] been delayed amid all the Kimmel stuff. No new date yet.” According to Richtman, the trailer that would have debuted online on Friday was thought to be the same trailer shown to live audiences at Star Wars Celebration in Japan this past April.
It was never confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney that a trailer would be released on Friday.
So, a few days ago I posted which trailers were slated for the week. Two came out as planned, but the third one which I confirmed was The Mandalorian and Grogu and not Send Help, got delayed amid all the Jimmy Kimmel stuff. Yes, that was the reason. No new date yet pic.twitter.com/9vcqnLbfNz

How Star Wars is connected to Disney
Although ABC’s decision to suspend Kimmel has nothing to do directly with Lucasfilm, Disney is the parent company that controls ABC. Why Disney would ask Lucasfilm — the studio that makes Star Wars content — to delay a trailer amid various controversies around the late-night host is unclear. Though Richtman did “confirm,” the Mandalorian & Grogu trailer was the movie that had its trailer delayed, and did assert “Yes, that was the reason,” in reference to the Kimmel controversy.
On Monday, during his show, Kimmel said that the “MAGA gang” was “desperately trying to characterize this kid [Robinson] who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.” As reported by USA Today and elsewhere, the motivations and political leanings of Robinson are in dispute. This comment prompted Nexstar, a local media company, to “indefinitely” preempt Kimmel’s show, due to their belief that Kimmel’s comments were “offensive.” ABC suspended Kimmel following Nexstar’s announcement.
As of this writing, it is possible Kimmel could return to his show, though no final decision has been made, according to CNN.
The Mandalorian & Grogu release date
Although there is reportedly a delay in releasing a big trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu, the Star Wars film is still set to be released next year, on May 22, 2026.
