A new documentary is capturing candid moments in the complicated life of singer Kanye West, otherwise known as Ye.
From a discussion with Tesla CEO Elon Musk about their significant others Kim Kardashian and Grimes, to backstage banter about West controversially grabbing a microphone from Taylor Swift, the In Whose Name? documentary covers a lot of ground. The documentary was directed by Nico Ballesteros.
One scene getting some attention in the film is the moment that West shouted at Kris Jenner, the mother of his then-wife Kardashian. According to the London Evening Standard, the scene left fans “stunned” by the “tense exchange” between West and Jenner.
But why was West shouting?

The exchange is seen on a video posted on the Instagram page of The Shade Room.
“I would rather be dead, not in jail,” West says, standing in a kitchen. “I’d rather be dead than be on medication. “No one in the family has taken any responsibility for my hospital visit…am I lying? Am I lying?”
An emotional Jenner responded, “It doesn’t matter,” and West then shouted, “It does matter. It does matter. It does matter,” with his fists balled up, jumping up and down.
“It matters to us, and you,” Jenner said, crying. “It doesn’t matter what the internet says. It matters what we think, Ye.”
“Well, what do you think? Did you have an effect on my mental health?” he asks.

“Yes,” she says. “Yes. I’m saying yes. And I love you. I love you. I don’t want you to be not perfect. I love you. And I want my daughter to love you the way you want her to love you.”
The New York Post reported that West also said, “Y’all demasculated [sic] me and made me feel like a piece of s***. And the only reason you got away with it is because I was medicated. I would rather be dead than be on medication.”
Some fans praised Kris Jenner’s response on the comment thread. “I’ll give it to Kris, she kept her composure,” wrote one.
