Debunked: All the wild rumours about D4vd that just aren’t true – and what actually is

Last week, the decomposing body of a young girl was found in the back of a car registered to pop singer D4vd. This body has since been identified as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, who went missing in April 2024. As details of the situation continue to update slowly, people on social media have been coming up with their own theories. Some people have been analysing lyrics to D4vd songs like Romantic Homicide, while others have been connecting an LA car chase to the singer. But what’s actually true?

No, D4vd wasn’t involved in an LA car chase

On Thursday evening, news about a supposed murder suspect leading the LAPD on a wild chase dropped, and some people started spreading that it was D4vd. The singer has a home in LA and is apparently under investigation, cooperating with the police and suspending some dates of his US tour.

The driver of the black Toyota Corolla Hatchback has already been arrested and is in police custody. Although details about the murder and the suspect aren’t yet readily available, it’s safe to assume it’s not D4vd as he hasn’t been reported to be in police custody.

D4vd’s Romantic Homicide lyrics don’t actually mention a car

Romantic Homicide, D4vd’s breakout hit that came out in 2022, is going viral again. Loads of people are analysing the lyrics and trying to figure out the meaning behind the song and music video. But some lyrics that are spreading aren’t actually real.

One edited screenshot says the lyrics are, “In the back of my car, I killed you,” when in reality it’s “In the back of my mind, I killed you.”

There’s no proof he released music on Celeste Rivas’ birthday

Another rumour making the rounds is that D4vd released music for the past three years on Celeste’s birthday. This blew up after popular Twitch streamer XQC reacted to “evidence” that proved it.

People are saying Romantic Homicide and other D4vd songs dropped on September 7th, and sharing that this is Celeste’s birthday. The song actually released on July 200th, and Celeste’s birthday is still unknown.

That viral ‘Nobody ever caught me’ snippet is real

D4vd shared unreleased music and bonus tracks on his social media quite a lot. One snippet that has resurfaced in the aftermath of the discovery of Celeste’s body has gained one million likes on TikTok.

This song is real. It was posted to D4vd’s X account on March 2nd. But it does miss out the first lyric of the song. After a voicemail of a girl crying and saying she misses him, the lyrics say “November 2016, I was selling at the high school,” and then, “Nobody ever caught me, but I’ve spoken too soon.”
