The Housemaid is set to be released later this year and is based on a beloved psychological thriller novel by Freida McFadden from 2022.

But this isn’t the only film set to be released this autumn that’s based on a book.

In fact, there’s a whole host of adaptations set to come to screens in the coming months which are inspired by some best-selling novels.

This means there’s a limited amount of time to read them before they hit cinemas.

So if you want to get ahead of the trend, here’s a breakdown of some of the best novels to add to your kindle asap!

The psychological thriller is from Bridesmaids director Paul Feig and focuses on Millie, a young woman with a troubled past who signs up to become a wealthy family’s live-in maid.

Things quickly unravel when she learns the household is keeping some dark secrets, and the couple’s perfect life begins to show cracks.

The book was the first of a series of books and was a huge success when initially published, with The New York Times calling the novel a ‘monster hit’.

The film is set to be released in cinemas on December 19.

The second Wicked film will be released in November (Picture: AP)

Starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, Wicked was the film everyone was talking about last year, with the second half of the film set to be released later this year.

Everyone knows that the film is based on the 2003 Broadway musical Wicked, which in turn was based on an idea from L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 film adaptation.

However, not many people realise that the original Broadway musical is based on a book -loosely.

Wicked is loosely based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, which is a reimagining of Baum’s 1900 novel.

It’s a little confusing, but basically, there are two popular novels you can turn to if you just need more Wicked in your life and can’t wait until the movie is released.

The film will be released on November 21.
