Shocking footage shows the moment an elderly care home resident stabbed the facility’s manager.
John Gula, 83, was captured lunging at Amelia Sola Ortiz with a pocketknife at the Rebecca Towers retirement home in Miami Beach, Florida, on August 4.
He was arrested soon after the attack, which he is believed to have launched after failing a property inspection, according to the arrest warrant.
Ms Ortiz was initally stabbed out of view of the camera before staggering forward as she attempts to push the elderly man away.
The footage reveals blood seeping through her shirt as she tries to disarm the knife.
An elderly woman in the footage, who is believed to be Mr Gula’s girlfriend, can be seen grabbing Mr Gula wrist as she looks to diffuse the situation.
Local authorities say the pensioner tried to pull a second knife and attempt to stab Ms Ortiz from behind.
One witness reportedly heard the victim shouting, ‘help me, help me’, police have said.
Ms Ortiz was found ‘profusely bleeding from the head and chest area with what appeared to be a stab wound to the torso’, officers said.
She was later taken to hospital to treat her injuries.
Local authorities used the CCTV footage to trace the octogenarian who is reported to have hid in his partner’s flat inside the retirement home.
The elderly man is currently being held at Metrowest Detention Center in Doral, Florida and is due to appear in court in November.
