Robert Sanchez issued an apology to Chelsea supporters for his red card in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.
Enzo Maresca’s side were forced to play the majority of the game with 10 men after Sanchez was sent off in the fifth minute for a foul on Bryan Mbeumo, who was through on goal.
‘On me today guys, big sorry for that,’ Sanchez wrote on Instagram.
‘Team put a massive effort in the second half but couldn’t get there.’
Sanchez will serve a one-match suspension for his red card, meaning he will be unavailable for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup game away to Lincoln City on Tuesday night.

The 27-year-old will be available to return for Chelsea’s Premier League game at home to Brighton next Saturday.
United dominated the game after Sanchez’s dismissal and went a goal ahead through Bruno Fernandes in the 14th minute.
Casemiro then doubled United’s advantage before half time with Chelsea struggling to adapt with 10 men.
Chelsea showed signs of improvement in the second half and Trevoh Chalobah pulled a goal back in the 80th minute.
But Maresca’s side were unable to find an equaliser, allowing United to secure their second win in the Premier League this season.
The defeat at Old Trafford is Chelsea’s first of the Premier League campaign.
