Keely Hodgkinson will look to add a World Championship gold to her impressive medal collection when she runs in Sunday’s 800m final.
Hodgkinson arrived in Tokyo as the reigning Olympic champion, although the Brit has barely raced since then due to two hamstring injuries.
However, the 23-year-old showed her devastating best at the Diamond League in Silesia last month, setting a new meeting record of one minute and 54.74 seconds – the second-fastest time of her career.
And in the World Championships so far, Hodgkinson has looked comfortable and cruised into the final alongside Kenyan runner Sarah Moraa in Friday’s semi-final.
Hodgkinson’s time of one minute 57.53 seconds was nearly three seconds off her season’s best which would suggest the British runner still has levels to improve as she looks to finally win gold in the World Championships.

Speaking ahead of the final, Hodgkinson noted that a win in Sunday’s final would mean more than her Olympic gold given her injury-affected season up until this point.
‘I’m happy to be in my fifth global final in a row. That is an achievement in itself, so I’m happy with that and to be in contention for another medal,’ she said.
‘This would mean more to me than last year. Just the journey here makes it that much sweeter. It’s so difficult to get here anyway and to come here and perform especially after the year I’ve had.
‘I’m grateful to be running I want to put out a performance that I’m proud of and be able to say I left it all out there, I don’t want anything left. If that is good enough to win, amazing, and if it’s not, then it’s all I can do.’
