A big transformation could be afoot for James Corden, as he’s teased that ‘you won’t see anything [else] like it’ ahead of his image overhaul.

The Gavin and Stacey actor is currently performing on Broadway in the revival of the Tony-winning play ART, in which he stars alongside Bobby Cannavale and Neil Patrick Harris.

And it seems one particular co-star has proven a friend off-stage too, with How I Met Your Mother’s Harris, 52, offering to share his personal trainer.

As a result, Corden, 47, is on a mission to get into the best shape of his life.

Speaking to People, the comedian, who is also working on a new show with Ruth Jones, heaped praise on his fellow theatre star, setting his next milestone in his honour.

‘I’ve started working out with Neil Patrick Harris’ trainer. So, get ready! Get ready,’ James quipped.

‘You won’t see anything like it.’

Corden, who has long used his weight as a punchline for gags in comedy writing, added that his workout regime now consists of ‘lunging and plunging’, and he’s ‘actually rather enjoying it’.

‘My aim is to—I don’t think I’ll ever be as fit as him—but I’m gonna try,’ he noted, referring to Harris, who has a famously toned physique and loves a gym thirst trap.

The former Late Late Show host has been open about his weight loss journey over the years.

Corden previously tried the controversial drug Ozempic, which has become somewhat of a trend in Hollywood this past year, as the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Sharon Osbourne have also confessed to taking it. The FDA-approved prescription medication is typically given to people with type 2 diabetes.

However, when Corden started taking it for weight loss purposes, he found it ‘didn’t work’. In fact, a study found that about 14% of people are non-responders to the drug for this use.

‘I tried Ozempic, and it won’t be surprising to you when you look at me now that it didn’t really work,’ Corden laughed, acknowledging that it didn’t cause him to shed any pounds.

‘I tried it for a bit, and then what I realised was I was like, “Oh no, nothing about my eating has anything to do with being hungry”,’ he added on the This Life of Mine podcast in 2024.

‘All this does is make you feel not hungry. But I am very rarely eating [just because of hunger].’

‘You are looking at someone who’s eaten a king-size, and when I say king-size [Cadbury] Dairy Milk—one you give someone for Christmas—in a carwash.

‘None of that was like, “Oh, I’m so hungry.” It is not that; it’s something else.’

Corden also joined WW (formerly Weight Watchers) in 2021 as a spokesperson and declared that he wanted to ‘change the way [he] lives’.

‘I want to be better for my children and for my family,’ Corden stated at the time, determined to lose weight more naturally. ‘I don’t want to wake up tired or feel embarrassed when I’m chasing my son on the soccer field and [I’m] out of breath after three minutes.’

He added that ‘the weight is not the issue; it’s the wellness of it’.

Ready to ‘tackle’ the matter, he said proudly that he would be working towards ‘getting healthy’.

Since he began losing weight and moving more, Corden, who once said he’d tried ‘every single diet in the world’, has found a new lease of life.

Explaining how ‘incredible’ he felt, he credited his new eating plan and lifestyle changes for making his clothes fit better and helping him become more ‘aware’ of what he’s putting into his body.

On maintaining a healthy mindset to weight loss while pursuing the journey, he added four years ago: ‘You don’t have to cut anything out. It’s just being aware of what you are putting in your body, trying not to eat things that have too many ingredients.’

‘You don’t beat yourself up if you have a bad week,’ Corden reassured. ‘You just don’t revert back to eating Quavers at midnight.’
