Andy Reid Reacts To Sideline Altercation With Travis Kelce

Travis Kelce and Andy Reid have worked together for more than a decade, but occasionally they still bump heads.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and head coach had a brief spat during Sunday night’s 22-9 win over the New York Giants. As Kelce made his way to the sideline in the second quarter, a fired up Reid confronted him about something he did or didn’t do on the field.

As he and Kelce spoke animatedly with each other, Reid bumped the perennial All-Pro with his shoulder.

This isn’t the first time these two have gotten into it during a game. They had a very public blowup during Super Bowl LVIII and even last week, Kelce slammed his helmet and yelled at Reid during the Chiefs’ Week 2 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite their history, Reid downplayed his spirited encounter with Kelce to reporters postgame.

“I love Travis’ passion, man,” said Reid. “I’m OK with that. We didn’t have enough of it in the second quarter. It wasn’t where we needed it to be, so, within reason, he knows when to back off the pedal and knows when to push it too.

“That’s the part I love about him. The guy is all-in. Sometimes, I have to be the policeman. He’s an emotional guy.”

Chiefs offense still finding its groove

At the time of Reid and Kelce’s altercation, the Chiefs had just failed to capitalized on a turnover when Harrison Butker missed a 40-yard field goal.

Kansas City was winning 6-0 at that moment, but was not playing well offensively. The Chiefs were able to ride a dominant defensive performance and just enough Patrick Mahomes magic to beat the 0-3 Giants, but will need more production on offense, especially at the wide receiver position moving forward.

‘Don’t make too much of it’

Kelce finished with four receptions for 26 yards on the night, a rather quiet showing.

After the game, he seemed to be in a good mood celebrating the Chiefs’ first win of the season, and Reid once again downplayed any argument between the two.

“Don’t make too much of it,” Reid said. “He’s a passionate guy, and I love that part. I’ve been through a lot of things with him. That’s all part of it. I love that he loves to play the game. That’s what I love. It’s an emotional game, so I’ll take it.”
