ITHUBA, operators of the national lottery, have announced a rare double win over the past weekend.
Two lucky participants became multi-millionaires in Draw 2578, held on Saturday, 20 September.
One winner, who played via the ABSA banking app with a R50 wager using the Quick Pick selection method, has scooped the Lotto jackpot of over R18 million.
The winning numbers were 4, 5, 14, 21, 34 and 52.
A second winner, who purchased their ticket at a retailer in Westville in KwaZulu-Natal, with a R30 wager using a manual selection method, won the Lotto Plus 2 jackpot of over R8.5 million.
The winning numbers were 20, 27, 31, 32, 38 and 42.
ITHUBA has urged participants in Westville to check their tickets and contact the nearest ITHUBA regional office to claim their prize.
Notified of their winnings
Winners who bought tickets via the banking platforms are automatically notified of their winnings by the bank.
“Congratulations to both jackpot winners! It’s rewarding to see participants using different ways of playing, which shows that we have truly created a convenient way of playing for different South Africans,” said ITHUBA CEO Charmaine Mabuza.
“Whether it’s digital, in-person, Quick Pick, or manual selection, there’s a way to play for everyone.”

As digital participation grows, with over 60% of tickets now bought via banking platforms, it is important for players to note that the national lottery is available on eight banking partners: Absa, Nedbank, FNB, Capitec, Old Mutual, TymeBank, Standard Bank, and African Bank.
Winners who win R50 000 and above receive free trauma counselling from professional psychologists and financial advice from accredited financial advisors absolutely free. At the same time, winnings are paid tax-free directly into the winner’s accounts.
Players must be 18 years old in order to play.
Next draw
The next Lotto, Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 draws will take place on Wednesday, 24 September from 21:00.
The Lotto jackpot now stands at R3 million, with the Lotto Plus 1 jackpot at R4 million and the Lotto Plus 2 jackpot back at R1 million.
