Joanna Page might be best known for her titular role in Gavin and Stacey, but the Welsh actress also had a part to play in a Johnny Depp horror—but what happened off-screen sounds far more interesting.
In 2001, Page appeared in From Hell, a horror/crime flick about Jack the Ripper, also starring Robbie Coltrane, Ian Holm, and Heather Graham.
After filming had wrapped one day, the 48-year-old actress and 62-year-old Hollywood star went out with the crew for an evening meal, during which Page simply ‘ignored him all night’ because she found him ‘gorgeous’.
But after they arrived back at their hotel, Pirates of the Caribbean lead Depp kissed her on ‘either side’ of her lips, and she was lost in a ‘trance’.
She recalled in the new issue of HELLO! magazine: ‘I don’t usually go for pretty boys, but I remember him walking across the set towards me in this black wig, and I’ve never seen anybody look more beautiful; he was absolutely stunning.
‘That evening, we all went for a meal together, and he came and sat next to me.

‘He had the most gorgeous, long, hazelnut hair, and I remember thinking, “He’s got hair like Jennifer Aniston.” He was too good-looking. So I ignored him all night.’
At the end of the night, Depp offered her a lift back and, when saying goodbye, he ‘slid his arms around [her] waist’ and then ‘slowly’ kissed her face.
‘Then I ran upstairs, phoned my mum and started screaming, “Johnny Depp just kissed me!”,’ she recalled excitedly.
However, the next day, when they shot a scene in which Page played a prostitute who just had a lobotomy—a surgical operation where cuts are made in or near the front part of the brain, which has been used to treat severe mental problems—she bottom burped in front of him.
The comedy star remembered: ‘Johnny said, “Oh my God, who’s just farted?”
‘And I should have just gone, “It was me; I was getting into character and getting into it.”

‘But I just looked around, going, “Oh yeah, gosh, who’s farted?”‘
Don’t worry, Joanna, it happens to all the best movie stars… probably.
As for the movie, From Hell was a box office success, grossing $74.6million (£55.3m) against its $35m (£26m) budget.
However, reviews were mixed, as some critics branded it ‘gripping and stylish’, while others said it was ‘average’ and ‘far from scary’.
The Love Actually star’s comments come after she made a much more serious revelation about being ‘groped’ by a TV host.
Page goes into detail about the incident in her upcoming memoir, Lush!, saying that she was warned about the man being ‘handsy’ before they met.

During an interview with The Times, Page recounted that he started touching her inappropriately halfway through filming a scene, to which she shouted: ‘What do you think you’re bloody doing? Keep your f***ing hands to yourself.’
Comparing it to being ‘in Bristol Zoo, being mauled by the lions’, Page said, after she removed his hands, the man stopped what he was doing.
‘It was bizarre, a female producer telling you this was going to happen, but it’s what you got used to,’ she said.
The individual is not allowed to be named for legal reasons, with Page warned to be ‘careful’ what she says publicly.
