Former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick requires ‘further treatment’ in hospital after picking up an infection following ankle surgery.
Rangnick, who currently serves as the Austria national team boss, has undergone multiple surgeries on his ankle in recent months.
According to Bild, the 67-year-old is now facing a longer spell in hospital after contracting an infection following a latest procedure in Bavaria.
The German outlet claim Rangnick picked up the ‘hospital germ’ last week which will now force him to cancel his latest squad announcement next week. His assistant Lars Kornetka will stand in while the head coach recovers.
The German underwent a routine ankle procedure in June but had to go back under the knife the following month after the surgical wound became seriously inflamed.

The former United boss has been recovering since those procedures, using an E-bike to get across the pitch during Austria’s World Cup qualifying win over Bosnia and Herzegovina last month.
Rangnick was drafted in as interim United boss following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November 2021.
He arrived in Manchester with a glowing reputation in Germany with the club initially planning to move him upstairs into a consultancy role beyond his spell in charge in the dugout.
Those plans were scrapped the following summer when Erik ten Hag arrived at the club.
Rangnick was in charge for 29 games as United limped to a sixth place finish in the 2021-22 season.
Appalled with the state of the club and the lack of quality in the playing squad, he infamously described United as ‘needing open heart surgery’ if they are to ever return to their former glories.
