The release date for the upcoming Apple TV+ series The Savant has been postponed ahead of its original expected release date of September 26. The last-minute move was announced Tuesday, just three days before the show was set to premiere on the streaming service.
The new thriller series follows the story of an undercover investigator, played by Jessica Chastain, who infiltrates hate groups by posing online as one of their own. While no specific reason was given as to why the show’s release date has been postponed, it’s believed that the plot of the series could strike a nerve in some viewers following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10.
“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant,” a spokesperson from AppleTV+ said in a statement, “we appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”
The first season of The Savant shows Chastain, who portrays a real-life investigator, posing as a white nationalist in an attempt to thwart a massive domestic terror attack. “my job is pretending to think like them to stop those people from doing really bad things,” Chastain’s character says in the official trailer. The Savant is based on a 2019 article from Cosmopolitan,Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens? It tells the story of the real detective “The Savant,” also known as “K.”
It’s unclear when the streaming service plans to air The Savant, which was expected to have episodes drop weekly until early November. The limited series also stars Cole Doman, Nnamdi Asomugha, Michael Patrick Thornton, and Trinity Lee Shirley.
