With the new NFL season officially rolling, the topic of eventful offseasons for high-profile names is always an enjoyable talking point. However, it’s hard to argue that anyone had a better all-around lead-up to the 2025 season than San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. The man who may have single-handedly redefined what the NFL dubs as “Mr. Irrelevant” not only received a five-year, $265 million contract extension in May, but also welcomed his first child into the world roughly two months later.
Purdy sat down for a conversation with Men’s Journal recently, discussing everything from his partnership with one of the cleanest sports drinks created (which tastes great, if you were curious), Recover 180, to a few stories about 49ers teammates and of course, his daughter. While the 25-year-old was gracious with his time, one story about his favorite moments with his daughter, Millie Joleen Purdy, was one that all fathers can surely resonate with.

Purdy and his college sweetheart-turned-wife Jenna Brandt welcomed their daughter in July, so it’s safe to assume the past few months have been a whirlwind for the new mom and dad. Brandt posted a photo on Instagram with Brock and their newborn on July 28, receiving countless messages of love and excitement from 49ers teammates, athletes, friends and fans.
While speaking with Purdy, the topic of how clean Recover 180 sports drinks are came up, and the signal-caller explained his desire to promote it to everyone, including kids.
“More than anything, it’s going to hurt my performance, it’s going to hurt my recovery,” Purdy said. “When it came to Recover and the opportunity to team up with them, I obviously looked at what’s in it, what am I putting in my body? Once I saw all the things that were clean about it and how organic it is, I was like, ‘This is awesome, I want to be about it, I want to promote it to kids and people in life, this is a clean sports drink. It’s good for everything.’”
This, naturally, led to a conversation about becoming a dad, and Purdy shared with Men’s Journal one of his favorite early moments with his new daughter.
“There’s a bunch of different little ones, but one of my favorites is, a thing I do every night,” Purdy told Men’s Journal. “She’ll get a little tired and fussy, and then Jenna will start getting ready for bed, so I’ll grab [Millie] and I just start bouncing her and singing to her. And we’ve got a mirror in our room, and I’ll go to the mirror to see if her eyes are open or not. So once I start seeing her eyes close, and my singing is working, and then laying her down in her bassinet to go to sleep.”
“Man, every single night, that’s what I look forward to the most, throughout the day, I can’t wait for that little moment that we get.”
While Purdy’s day-to-day grind is tough to even begin to wrap your head around, the 49ers signal-caller proves that when it comes to being a parent, he’s just like anyone else. It’s easy to appreciate the Pro Bowl quarterback’s on-field play, but it’s also hard not to love the joy he gets from these moments early in his daughter’s life.
