Longtime New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees certainly didn’t make any new friends in Philadelphia this week. While appearing on ESPN’s First Take, a role he’ll now step into as a weekly NFL analyst, Brees spoke about the Philadelphia Eagles and did so in the form of surprising criticism. The 13-time Pro Bowler’s comments were even more noteworthy considering the Eagles boast one of the NFL’s few unbeaten records at 3-0.
Brees, who spent 15 seasons with the Saints after beginning his career with the then-San Diego Chargers, has a stellar resume as an NFL quarterback. However, after calling the Eagles “boring” on First Take, he’s bound to receive plenty of pushback from fans of the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Drew Brees Calls Philadelphia Eagles ‘Boring,’ Admits He ‘Respects’ Them
Brees did correctly give a tip of the cap to the Eagles while stating he “respects” them, but followed that up with a blunt assessment of the team’s offense behind quarterback Jalen Hurts, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter highlighted.
“I respect Philly. They are winning games, they’re finding ways to win games,” Brees said. “I can’t stand to watch that offense. It’s the most boring offense.”

Not surprisingly, First Take host Stephen A. Smith was legitimately surprised by the comments. Brees also continued by doubling down and casting doubt over his belief in how the Eagles will do going forward this season.
“We’re in Week 3, we’re gonna be on every week, let’s just see how this thing plays out,” Brees said.
However, he did also admit that “boring” can “absolutely” win Super Bowls, so that’s at least a minor piece of added praise for the Eagles.
Drew Brees Points to Eagles vs. Cowboys Week 1 Matchup
To add a bit more fuel to the already red-hot fire, Brees, after calling the NFC East the “toughest division in football,” went back to the Eagles’ opening week matchup with the rival Dallas Cowboys. Brees attributed Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s struggles with drops in the opener to the reason the Eagles remain unbeaten.
“If CeeDee Lamb could catch a post route in Week 1, the Cowboys have them beat,” Brees added.
Obviously, the blunt criticism of the Eagles’ offense was one thing, but it’s fair to assume Philly fans won’t love the longtime quarterback highlighting that Week 1 matchup very much either.
