Margot Robbie emerged as one of the fan-favorite stars of the popular 2013 film TheWolf of Wall Street. However, the 35-year-old recently made a few surprising comments about the film and her role specifically. Robbie starred alongside Leonard DiCaprio in the biographical comedy directed by Martin Scorsese, based on Jordan Belfort’s 2007 memoir. The story recounts his career as a stockbroker in New York City while highlighting alleged corruption and fraud surrounding his firm, Stratton Oakmont.
Robbie, portraying Naomi Lapaglia, becomes the second wife of DiCaprio, who plays the role of Belfort. While her arrival didn’t come until a bit into the movie, when Robbie did emerge, she quickly became a central character—something she apparently didn’t even expect would be the case.
Margot Robbie Thought She Might Be ‘Cut out’ of ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’
While speaking with IMDb to promote their upcoming film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Robbie and Colin Farrell discussed some of the most noteworthy acting roles throughout their careers. The first movie mentioned by Farrell was The Wolf of Wall Street, prompting Robbie to offer a few honest comments about her own role in the film.
“I didn’t even see the movie until the night before the premiere. I had no idea if I was cut out,” Robbie said of The Wolf of Wall Street. “Honest, I’m not saying this to try and be humble or whatever. When we were making the movie, I really didn’t think anyone was going to take notice of me.”
“Because so much happens in the movie, so many crazy things in the movie that I was like, I’ll just be like a blip on screen,” Robbie continued. “I’ll be like there and gone and there for another thing, and then back again and then gone. And then it was edited, obviously, for so long, and I didn’t see it until the last second. And I was like, ‘I wonder if I’m still in it, I hope I’ve still got a couple of scenes in there.’”
Farrell went on to admit that Robbie was “kind of all we spoke about” when he saw the movie with other people, because he didn’t know who she was at the time.
It’s fair to say that Robbie’s expectation for what her role in the film may look like was drastically different than how it actually played out. As Farrell put it, Robbie was “extraordinary” in the movie, and many consider her performance in The Wolf of Wall Street as a breakout moment in her acting career.
The Wolf of Wall Street went on to earn impressive reviews from critics and fans alike. The movie is dubbed “certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, with a critics’ score of 79 percent based on 283 reviews. The fan score checks in even higher, at 83 percent, which is even more impressive considering it factors in more than 100,000 reviews.
