An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck the Sundargi district of Balikesir Province, western Türkiye, at 22:48 pm local time.
According to data published by the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) on its website, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 5.99 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt by residents of Istanbul, Izmir and a number of other states in the Marmara and Aegean regions.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said, in a blog post on social media, that the specialized teams began field survey work in the earthquake area.
In turn, the District Commissioner of Sundargi district reported, in a statement to Anadolu Agency, that there was destruction in some areas, without any loss of life.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Kemal Mamishoglu stated, in a blog post on social media, that they had not received any negative reports.
As for the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Oraloglu, he confirmed in a blog post on the Turkish “InSocial” platform that there was no damage to the communications infrastructure.
Last August 10, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sundarghi district, killing one person and injuring 29.
