Everyone’s talking about The High School Catfish and Wednesday, but a funny new sitcom also landed on Netflix recently from the creator of Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory.
It’s called Leanne, and it’s about a grandmother whose life is thrown upside down when her husband suddenly leaves her for another woman after 33 years of marriage. She then has to navigate this new chapter of life alone.
The show actually arrived on Netflix at the end of July, but it seems to have been lost with so many huge releases around the same time. So, people are only just starting to binge it now.
“Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family, she will face this new chapter with grace, dignity, and Jell-O salad,” Netflix’s Tudum says.

The series was co-created by none other than Chuck Lorre and features comedian and actress Leanne Morgan as the lead actress, who had her own 2023 stand-up comedy special on Netflix called I’m Every Woman.
“Leanne uses humor to cope. Sometimes you just have to laugh to keep from crying. She leans on her support system — her family, close friends, and church community — to get through it,” she told Tudum.
“There’s the vulnerability of opening yourself up after being abandoned by the person you built your life with. It’s not just about meeting someone new. It’s about risking the pain of being hurt again.”

It’s got a pretty good 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, and people are describing it as a feel-good, easy-to-watch show with some pretty hilarious one-liners.
“Like any good sitcom, Leanne combines goofiness and sincerity to give a platform to women who struggle to believe they can have a second lease on life: awkward at first, but comforting and humorous as it grows,” one person said.
Another agreed: “Its goal is comfort TV, and Leanne mostly achieves that. Bless its heart.”
It’s only got 16 short 19-minute episodes, so you can binge the whole thing in five hours. Anything from the creator of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon is always worth a watch!
