A small plane carrying 11 people crashed – today, Tuesday – in Kenya, killing all its passengers, who were 8 Hungarians and two Germans, in addition to its Kenyan pilot, according to what Mombasa Air Safari Limited announced.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority reported that the plane took off from the coastal area of Diani, and was on its way to Masai Mara National Park when it crashed at approximately 05:30 am (02:30 GMT).
Mombasa Air Safari Limited’s president, John Cliff, confirmed that “one of the company’s planes” had crashed, noting that it was carrying 10 passengers, eight Hungarians, two Germans, and the Kenyan commander.
“Unfortunately, there is no survivor,” Cliff said in a statement, based on preliminary information, indicating that an emergency team had been called to the scene.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic incident,” he added.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority had indicated – in a statement published on the X platform – that the plane was carrying 12 people, without providing additional details, but it noted that government agencies had visited the accident site to determine the cause of the crash.
It is noteworthy that small aircraft crashes are common in this East African country.
Last August, a plane belonging to the non-governmental medical organization Amref crashed in a suburb of the capital, Nairobi, killing 6 people and wounding two.
