A new European plan for Ukraine, and Trump does not want a fruitless meeting with Putin news

Informed sources revealed that European countries are preparing a plan to stop the fighting in Ukraine, and while US President Donald Trump made it clear that he does not want a fruitless meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, the White House received a special statement from Moscow regarding the terms of the settlement.

Sources revealed to Bloomberg a European-Ukrainian plan aimed at ending the war on the current battle lines, in response to Moscow’s demands for Kiev to give up territory in exchange for a peace agreement.

The European plan includes 12 points to end the war “on the current battle lines.”

The sources said that the plan gives Ukraine security guarantees and money to repair war damage, and a way to quickly join the European Union.

The sources explained that the European-Ukrainian plan comes in response to Putin’s renewed demands to the United States that Kiev give up territory in exchange for a peace agreement.

She stated that the plan proposes that Trump chair a peace council to supervise its implementation.

The sources indicated that the plan calls for gradually lifting the sanctions imposed on Russia, but it links the return of about $300 billion in frozen Russian funds to Moscow’s agreement to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Indefinitely

In the same context, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the negotiation of a defense agreement with European partners within long-term security guarantees.

For his part, US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he had postponed indefinitely a meeting he was scheduled to hold with his counterpart, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in Budapest within two weeks, justifying the postponement by not wanting to waste time by holding fruitless discussions.

“I don’t want to hold an empty meeting,” Trump told reporters at the White House when asked about the reason for postponing the meeting, adding, “I don’t want to waste time, so I’ll see what happens.”

And in Trump’s statements, “We reached great and wonderful peace deals and strong agreements except for these. I said to the two countries: retreat from the contact and battle lines and go back to your homes and take some time. They are killing each other and losing between 5 to 7 thousand soldiers a week, so we will see what happens. We have not made a decision after that.”

The American and Russian presidents were planning to meet in Budapest to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Secretary of State Sergei Lavrov also canceled a meeting scheduled between them to prepare for the Budapest summit, which was the focus of a conversation they held the day before yesterday, Monday.

The Kremlin announced earlier on Tuesday that there was no “specific” date for a new meeting between Trump and Putin.

Trump has seemed increasingly frustrated with Putin in recent months, despite what he described as their good personal relationship.

Special statement from Moscow

Two American officials and an informed source said that Russia renewed its previous conditions for concluding a peace agreement with Ukraine, in a special statement sent to the United States at the beginning of the week under the name “the unofficial document.”

One American official added that the statement reaffirmed Russia’s demand to control the entire Ukrainian Donbass region, a position that actually contradicts US President Donald Trump’s current position of freezing the front lines in their current locations.

One of the officials said that Russia also confirmed its previous position not to deploy NATO forces in Ukraine as part of any peace agreement.

In the same context, the Kremlin accused Europe of inciting Kyiv to continue fighting.
