German Thomas Muller, the American Vancouver Whitecaps player, caused a surprise when he revealed that he agreed to wear the Barcelona shirt if his compatriot Hansi Flick, the coach of the Catalan team, contacted him.
During his time with his former team, Bayern Munich, Muller became famous as “Barcelona’s nightmare and executioner” because of his remarkable numbers in the matches he played against the “Blaugrana.”

Muller said in statements highlighted by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”, “Yes, I could imagine my future in a Barcelona shirt.”
The German international explained, “If Flick, who knows me well (they worked together for years at Bayern Munich and the German national team), had contacted me and convinced me of the Barcelona project, I would have been able to imagine something like this.”
Mueller concluded, “Barcelona is a first-class club, and you know exactly what people expect from you there.”
It is noteworthy that Muller (36 years old) previously played against Barcelona in 10 matches, all in the Champions League, during which he scored 8 goals and provided his teammates with two decisive passes, with an average goal contribution in each match.
Muller achieved 8 victories against Barcelona, most notably the overwhelming 8-2 victory in the 2019-2020 Champions League quarter-finals, compared to two losses, the last of which was 1-4 in the league stage last season 2024-2025.
Muller spent his entire professional career with Bayern Munich, since his promotion to the first team in 2009, before he left the Bavarian giant at the end of last season, moving to the American Professional League (MLS).
During his long period with Bayern Munich, Muller played 756 matches in all tournaments, during which he scored 250 goals, provided 276 assists to his teammates, and won 33 titles, according to data from the famous Transfermarkt website.
