Whether it’s a custard cream, a digestive or a ginger nut, we Brits are known for our strong love of biscuits, as well as our seemingly eternal debate over whether a Jaffa Cake does indeed count as one.

Now, Sainsbury’s has introduced a mouth-watering new twist on a British classic: the iconic Bourbon, this time paired with a creamy orange filling.

First introduced in 1910 by Peek Freans, the biscuit was originally called the Creola, but in the 1930s, it was rebranded and renamed after the French and Spanish House of Bourbon, likely intended to give it more of an air of sophistication and a little je ne sais quoi.

Posting over on the @newfoodsuk Instagram, biscuit fans were delighted at the fresh take, with @nathaliesfoodandfitness describing it as ‘not a want but a need.’

@ourrach penned ‘I’m listening,’ while @alishalc98 said she was ‘immediately buying.’

A Fresh Treat for Cookie Lovers A new flavor of Bourbons ? chocolate-orange Bourbon Twists ? has sparked a wave of excitement among shoppers since appearing on store shelves. These treats are now on the shelves at Sainsbury?s, and fans rushed to scoop them up.

‘So good you can taste [and] smell the orange chocolate filling,’ @r1111mma wrote on TikTok, adding that the ‘filling tastes like the Quality Street Orange Creme Chocolates.’

In the Snack Reviews Facebook group, Daniel Christopher Chubb reckoned that the biscuits have ‘just the right balance of orange and chocolate’, while a tribute in the Money Saver By Dansway group said that ‘they may look no different than the original Bourbon biscuits,’ but the ‘orange filling is so tasty.’

However, not everyone was delighted after trying their first taste, as Debbie Pritchard reckoned that the couple of flavours she’d tried were ‘very dry [and] hard biscuits with not much taste.’

Donna Drew said she ‘loves a Bourbon but not these,’ while Dianne Turner begged for the brand to ‘stop with the pistachio, orange and hazelnut fillings already.’

This isn’t the first twist on the classic Bourbon that Sainsbury’s has introduced its biscuit lovers to.

There are also the limited edition Bourbon twists with a dreamy Neapolitan ice cream flavour filling, currently available for 65p.

And, not a million miles away in the biscuit family, the supermarket has also experimented in combining the custard cream with a Lemon Meringue Pie filling, also for 65p.

Naturally, we’ve long known that the Brits love a good biccie, as according to a previous study from Breville, the Bourbon ranks in the top 10 picks at number nine.

The enduring favourite was the shortbread, while the Jaffa Cake (seemingly a biscuit in their eyes) came in second place and the Lotus Biscoff in third.

The orange Bourbon isn’t the only new sweet treat fresh on the block of late. Lindt lovers have also been introduced to a brand-new flavour, also inspired by a beloved biscuit: the ‘irresistibly smooth’ Shortbread Truffle.

Designed specifically for UK foodies and the perfect pairing for a cup of tea, the new treat is comprised of the classic milk chocolate shell we’ve come to know and love, infused with shortbread pieces.

There’s even an extra helping of milk chocolate filling in the middle, and an added layer of ‘shortbread aroma’ – AKA, the perfect accompaniment to a cup of tea.

Meanwhile, Tim Tims, the chocolate biscuit brand hailed as ‘Aussie gold,’ aren’t a million miles away from the concept of a Bourbon – and they just launched a brand new flavour in the UK.

After ‘countless requests, messages and borderline begs’, Arnott’s, who make the treat, have announced the launch of Tim Tam White in the UK.

Sold exclusively in Sainsbury’s for £2,50 per pack, the new flavour will be available on shelves from 3 September, introducing countless Brits to the concept of the ‘Tim Tam slam’ in the process.
