An active weather pattern is setting up for the weekend, with a couple of storm systems expected to roll through each afternoon. The exact timing and path of these systems will be the deciding factor in how severe the weather gets.
Get ready for a hot and humid day. Highs will reach the low 90s with heat index values near 100 degrees. This muggy air will act as fuel for a line of storms expected to move through in the afternoon and evening. There’s a good amount of energy (instability) which could lead to strong, organized lines of storms. The biggest concern will be damaging wind gusts. We are still nailing down the exact track, so whether the strongest storms hit the CSRA or stay further south is still a bit uncertain.
Another upper-level disturbance heads our way Sunday. Moisture will be even higher, which could lead to widespread morning clouds and a few early showers. That cloud cover might limit just how intense the storms get later in the day. Still, another round of storms is possible by the afternoon or evening, again with damaging winds being the main threat. Highs on Sunday will be a bit cooler thanks to the clouds, likely staying in the 80s.
The storm train doesn’t stop with the weekend. A trough will continue over the eastern U.S., keeping us in a storm-friendly pattern through at least midweek. Another round of storms is possible Monday, with daily chances continuing into Tuesday and Wednesday. A front may try to push through the region, but even that may stall and keep rain chances around. Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s during this period.
