A military source in the Sudanese army announced the withdrawal of army forces from some locations in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state in the west of the country, for tactical reasons, according to his explanation.
The sources reported that the army withdrew from the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division in El Fasher after fierce fighting with the Rapid Support Forces
For his part, Al-Basha Tabiq, advisor to the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, announced control of the headquarters of the Sixth Infantry Division of the Sudanese army, in El Fasher.
Al Jazeera correspondent from Omdurman, Osama Sayed Ahmed, said that the dawn hours of Sunday witnessed the outbreak of intense battles in several locations around the Sixth Division.
He said that the army forces and the forces supporting them withdrew from their headquarters in the Sixth Division and confirmed that they would work to reorganize their ranks and work to restore those positions.
El Fasher is considered a primary center for humanitarian operations in the five states of the Darfur region, and since May 10, 2024, it has been subject to a siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces, amid international warnings of catastrophic repercussions on civilians.
Since the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on April 15, 2023, about 20,000 people have been killed and more than 15 million displaced and refugees have been displaced, according to international and local reports.
