Abraham Quintanilla—the father of the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla—died at age 86, his family announced.
“It’s with a heavy heart to let you guys know that my Dad passed away today,” Abraham’s son, A.B. Quintanilla III, shared via Instagram on Saturday, December 13.
Quintanilla is best known as the manager of Selena y Los Dinos, the family band he formed with his three children. His vision was extraordinary, considering he pictured Selena becoming a Spanish singing sensation, despite not speaking the language.
His legendary status came to the forefront when Edward James Olmos portrayed him in the Gregory Nava directed biopic, Selena. The film also starred a then-unknown Jennifer Lopez as the late superstar and Constance Marie as Quintanilla’s wife, Marcela.
Following the 1995 murder of his daughter, Quintanilla spent his life keeping her legacy alive. He recently appeared in the Netflix documentarySelena Y Los Dinos, in which he opened up about their barrier-breaking rise to fame.
“At first, they were skeptical because it’s a girl—and a young girl. I said, ‘Well, let’s give it a try one time,’ and we recorded a song,” he said in the 2025 doc.

While a cause of death has not been confirmed, TMZ reported there is no suspicion of trauma or foul play, per the Nueces County Medical Examiner.
