Adherence to the doctors’ strike reaches 80%. Fnam says it is also a response to regional emergencies

“Global adherence is around 80%, but we had 100% adherence in several family health units in the country and in operating rooms”. The assessment was made to DN by the president of the National Federation of Doctors (Fnam) who went ahead with this national strike last week, precisely on the day that there was already a general strike in the Public Service, decreed by the Public Service.

For Joana Bordalo e Sá, this number, although she says that the structure will not “enter into the war of numbers”, reflects “the feeling of doctors about what this Government is doing to the National Health Service (SNS) and is also a response to the regional emergency diploma that will imply the relocation of professionals, but above all the closure of some services, leaving these populations without local care”.

According to Fnam data, scheduled activity was the most affected area, namely “consultations, operating rooms and family health units”. For example, says Joana Bordalo and Sá, “we had operating blocks in central hospitals that closed at 100%”, exemplifying: “The Padre Américo Hospital block, in Penafiel, like the central hospital blocks in Porto, São João and Santo António, which reached 100% and 90%, respectively. The same happened in the IPO block in Porto. These were units where only minimal services operated with the operating blocks. urgency.”

The scenario was repeated in hospitals in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, Alentejo and Algarve. For example, “the gynecology-obstetrics block at the Cascais Hospital closed 100%, the central block at the Portalegre hospital and at the Algarve Local Health Unit as well, registering an overall adherence of more than 80%, only minimal services were operating, but there are others that at this point we still cannot have concrete numbers”, he explains.

In central hospitals in Lisbon, for example, “in Santa Maria we had 90% adherence in Intensive Medicine and more than 60% in the medical areas”. In the Central region, the union leader says that 90% support for the strike was recorded at the Figueira da Foz Hospital, the Bissaya Barreto Maternity Hospital with over 73% and the Coimbra Pediatric Hospital with over 70%.

In this strike, Joana Bordalo e Sá highlights adherence to Primary Health Care, with several Family Health Units from the north to the south of the country closed 100%, such as Sétima Colina in Lisbon, Terras do Paiva, in Viseu, Cruz de Celas and Baixo Mondego, in Coimbra, Buarcos, and USF in the Algarve. But, he reinforces, “for us the most important thing is that each postponed consultation or surgery has two people responsible, Minister Ana Paula Martins and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, who do not want to negotiate with doctors measures that can help them to hire and hire”.

The president of Fnam recalls topics that have always been mentioned in the negotiating rounds: “We do not only discuss the issue of salaries, but also working conditions, career progression and the integration of more intern doctors”, highlighting: “Adhesion also has to do with the minister’s imposition on the issue of mobility, which, according to the diploma presented on regional emergencies, will be by force”. A situation that he says does not serve doctors, nor “the populations, who will be left without close care”. Joana Bordalo e Sá also criticized the replacement of the president of INEM and the increase in waiting lists in the area of oncology.
