LONDON (IT BOLTWISE) – Global IT spending is expected to rise to $6.08 trillion by 2026, representing a remarkable 9.8 percent year-on-year growth. Global IT spending is poised for a significant increase, forecast to reach $6.08 trillion by 2026. This corresponds to growth of 9.8 percent compared to the previous year. Particularly noteworthy is the influence of artificial intelligence on software development, which becomes more expensive through the integration of GenAI functions. This development is reflected in the rising costs of features and functionalities that companies are increasingly integrating into their existing software products.

A key driver of this growth is data center spending, which increased an impressive 46.8 percent to $489.5 billion in 2025. Further growth of 19 percent is expected in 2026, increasing spending to $582.4 billion. These investments are necessary to meet the increasing demands on computing power and data storage caused by increasing digitalization and the use of AI technologies.

While data center and equipment spending is surging, software and services spending is not recovering at the same pace. Vertically oriented software solutions are particularly affected by this development, as buyers at the industry level are more sensitive to political changes and economic uncertainties. This shows that market dynamics in the IT industry are heavily influenced by external factors beyond pure technology.

The hype around artificial intelligence has died down somewhat in 2025, but the integration of GenAI functions into almost all business software shows that AI continues to play a central role in IT strategy. These features not only drive up costs, but also offer new opportunities to optimize business processes and increase efficiency. Experts expect that budgets will be significantly increased by the end of the year in order to fully exploit this potential.
