GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WJBF) – The driver of the white van that sparked concern in Aiken County spoke to law enforcement.
The incident happened July 24th in a Graniteville neighborhood.
Initially, students and parents reported a white van tried to pick up children waiting for a school bus; then the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying there was not danger to the public.
The ACSO released reports detailing what actually happened.
The reports say the driver, wife, and children rented the van for an out of town trip. He said he was in the neighborhood visiting in-laws.
The family saw the children waiting for the bus, not knowing it was on the way, and offered the children a ride to school.
The driver told deputies that when he saw a child drop his belongings and run was when he realized he may have scared the children.
The driver went back to his family’s home, told them what happened and left contact information in case of an investigation.
The ACSO did a through investigation, including visiting the family’s home and determined it was a misunderstanding.
The case is now closed.
