Albares recognizes the grievance of La Conquista and asks for his resignation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, José Manuel Albares, assured that there was “pain and injustice towards the native peoples” during the Conquest of Mexico.

MADRID, Nov. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) – The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Local Administration and spokesperson for the Government of the Community of Madrid, Miguel Ángel García Martíndemanded this Saturday the resignation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Jose Manuel Albaresafter apologizing to Mexico for the “pain and injustice towards the native peoples.”

“Minister Albares is the worst representative our country has ever had, the worst Foreign Minister our country has ever had,” declared the spokesperson for the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso before the media during a visit to the Madrid town of Buitrago de Lozoya.

Thus, García Martín classified Albares as “a disastrous minister who does not know the history” of Spain or its alliance with Latin America, so he must “present his resignation” if he does not “automatically retract” these statements in which he alludes to the Spanish imperialist past.

“We do not deserve a Government that discredits our country, a Government that whenever it has the opportunity speaks badly of precisely what Spain has been, what Spain is, its history and the truth. In this case, of that alliance that we have with each and every one of the countries of Latin America,” García Martín stressed.

He Minister Albares inaugurated on Friday the large art exhibition by indigenous Mexican women “Half of the World. Women in Mexico” ensuring that there was “pain and injustice towards the native peoples” of the country, something that is part of the “shared history” that cannot be denied or forgotten.

These statements by the person in charge of Spanish diplomacy come after at the beginning of the week the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that her Government is still waiting for Spain’s apology for the colonial past that her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, made in a letter to King Felipe VI and that caused several clashes between the two countries.
