Tackling a big shop when the supermarket is packed full of people can leave you stressed, overstimulated and sometimes even without what you came in for.
And thanks to the summer break, anyone who usually times their visits to avoid busy periods will have had their routine thrown into chaos.
Thankfully though, Aldi has revealed its quietest times during the school holidays, so you can browse the aisles in (relative) peace.
According to in-store data, the golden moment in the mornings is between 8am and 10am — perfect for those who want to get their groceries before the lunchtime rush.
While it depends on the branch, Aldi typically puts out its reduced yellow sticker bargains first thing, so this has the added bonus of potentially saving you some cash.
But if you’re not an early bird, no need to panic. In the afternoons, stores are normally quieter from 4pm to 5pm, after which you risk being disturbed by the after-work crowd.
If you prefer to get your shopping done in the evenings, you should wait until 8pm to 10pm.
Aldi’s best money-saving tips this summer
Alongside tips for a peaceful shop, the budget-friendly supermarket shared a few simple ways families can ‘shop smart’ over the holidays.
First off, there’s its Summer Support Scheme giveway, where one customer will win a £50 Aldi voucher every day in July and August. To enter, all you need to do is send your name and address to summersupportscheme@aldi.co.uk.
New parents can also get a helping hand, with a £100 voucher giveaway that runs until the end of the year. To be in with a chance, simply send a receipt of a Mamia nappy purchase to mamiaparentfund@aldi.co.uk.
Additionally, Aldi urges shoppers to make the most of its ‘Super Six’ fresh produce deals – this week, you can find cucumbers and baby potatoes for 69p and tomatoes, blueberries and seedless grapes for £1.19 – and to ‘stock up and freeze any suitable items you won’t eat right away’.
This comes after Lidl recently stole Aldi’s crown of cheapest supermarket in the UK – a title it had retained for 20 months in a row.
According to analysis by consumer champions, Which?, a basket of 76 grocery items was cheaper at Lidl than eight of the UK’s biggest supermarkets for July,
It was certainly close though, with just an 85p price difference between the German discount rivals.
At Lidl, the total on average across the month came out to £128.40, with members of the retailer’s loyalty scheme saving a further 40p.
At Aldi, the same shop – including own-brand and branded items like Hovis bread, Birds Eye Peas, milk and butter – came out at £129.25.
